Nestled in the famous Franschhoek Valley within South Africa, Farm Sanctuary SA is a boutique and inspiring sanctuary for rescued farmed animals. The sanctuary also offers wine-tastings, unique barn accommodation, a plant-based café - and is also home to the famous painting pig, ‘Pigcasso', and painting sheep, 'Baanksy'.
Farm Sanctuary SA serves to instil an awakened connection between farm animals and visitors - aiming to inspire a positive change in the way society views and treats farmed animals. Driving and funding the mission are founder/director Joanne Lefson and the resident rescued ‘fabulous and famous’ painting pig ‘Pigcasso', and painting sheep, 'Baanksy'. Their artworks have sold for millions around the world and the funds not only sustain the operations at the sanctuary but Pigcasso’s world-breaking records have received unprecedented coverage for the plight of farmed animals.

Having always had a love for animals and animal welfare, Joanne Lefson has been involved in many creative initiatives in this respective field. In 2009, she took her dog ‘Oscar’ around the world - transversing 43 countries - in order to promote and inspire dog adoption. In 2013, he also took an Indian street dog ‘Rupee’ up Mount Everest and the documentary about her Donkey Sanctuary that she also established in the high Himalayan town of Leh was featured in the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. When Oscar passed away in 2013, she established Oscars Arc, an adoption agency that has saved the lives of over 4500 shelter dogs.
